After all I did enjoy the process of building it but also expirenced that I need to change something when I’m already half way through, I think this world can be built on and on, and eventrually it can become a huge city. If I had more tiime, I think I would keep refine the details eg. roads, decorations etc.

This is a world with three places that I went to the most before I came out of my hometown to study, these are not the best places but they are the places that I miss the most, some of these places are already gone or has been demolished, but I’m glad that I can still roughly remember how they look like and had a chance to reform them in a different way even if it’s not exactly the same.

My third spot is a park. A green park with a lot of trees in it and a huge lack in the middle. For this park, I brought a pack of from the asscess store, it has a lot of different architectures and plants, which allows me to enrich the world a little.

There’s not much things in the park, becasue it’s really just a green park for elderlies to have a walk and breath some fresh air, there are a lot of kids as well. Because a lot of children were brought up by their grandparents when they were young and I was also one of them who were raised by grandparents, this can explain why I was so familiar with this park.

There were many many slops and was very tiring to just walk around the park once. There is a big car park outside the gate, but bearly any cars stop there for going to the park.

My favorite place of the park is the entrence, because there is where the most interesting things are and where most people are, I can always find other friends just by the first water fountain when we walk stright into the park.

For the ground, I created 3d object ‘plane’, and added materials to it. I like how plane works as I can change the texture of it just by adding on different materials and it’s not too complicated to do. However, half way though my work, I realised I couldn’t make slops with plane, therefore I spend around an hour to figure out what I can do with terrain and how to add different textures to it. At first I was still hesitating whether I should change the whole thing with terrain or should I just use it when there’s slops, but in the end, the scale of the texture on the terrain and the plane is different and it’s very clear to see, so I added terrain on top of the plane, so that I can go back to plane if I need to.

This was the plane I was using in the begining, it doesn’t have the feel of a playground for primary school and if I add a grass texture to another plane it looks very odd.

Here is after I changed to terrain, after getting on a hand with terrain, it’s so much quicker and better to show different textures and it won’t feel very odd where the two different textures meet.

I’m starting to build my second spot in unity for my vitrual world. This is a residence community, which I’ve been living when I was still in primary school. It’s a long time ago therefore I can’t remember it very well. The most memorable point is the underground car park going down in fround of the building that I lived in, I used to play with my cousins at the window, having compatitions about who can guess the most car colours right (which is when cars coming out of the car park, we guess before the next car coming out).

This is the view that I have when playing that ‘game’.

I started building the school. I had a few try out pieces before I actually started building, just to make sure that I know how to add component into Unity. I looked through a lot of buildings try to find something that looks similar to my school and that took a bit of time, although the building I found looks more like an apartment and quite old, but I think it does have the feel of it as we have a lot of student in each class, therefore shcool block is quite tall, each classroom’s window are close together as well.

I started with the gate and fence of the school to measure the rough distance from the gate to school block, then I added some trees and fitness equipment (for chlidrens) onto playground. I used planes for my floor and found some very nice materials of the road.

When the word hometown was mentioned I immediatly thought about my primary school, because the best memory of mine is in that school as I came to the UK very young, I bearly stayed in my hometown, even when I go back, everyone is still in school.

So, I decied to start from my primary school. This is the rough map of the spots that I want to build.

The other 2 places is a residence community I lived in when I was young and the park is the place that I went to the most except for school.
